Oil-dyed egg rubber-stamped with Versatex ink.

Wax dribbled onto the egg.

Dyed mauve, then wax removed. I can't believe how well the Versatex took the punishment this time. Going to make a few more like this soon.

Obviously a waxed red egg.

But then what?? I think maybe I put it in vinegar for a while, then dumped it in a teal dye bath for a short time. I do know I accented it using acrylic paint.

Looks like a partial wax

. . . reconsidered with more wax.

Painted with Setacolor.

Started off OK, European pearlescent "dye" paint.

Waxed . . .

Disaster -- I forgot my own research and attempted to remove the Setacolor with heat instead of Goo Gone. The hot, melted wax stripped away most of the Setacolor.

More resist experiments that will go bad when they hit the dye bath.

Monday, February 19, 2007

A blue egg with a pattern drawin with some old batik resist. Then lime green accents added using dy-na-flow with dye thickner. I was experimenting to see if the resist would dissolve in the dye bath. It will, so I don't know what I'm going to do next.

Added a little purple Versatex to the egg. Still unsure about what to do.

Another bad-resist egg, but this one might work. The resist will wash off, but hopefully the teal-and-lime stripes (made with dye-thickened dy-na-flow) will stay in place.

Dotted to preserve a little of the light blue.

Then the dye-thickner lines were waxed for protection.

With the wax and resist removed. As you can see, the thickened dye came off, too. I like this, but feel it needs more work.
