DANC 1101 Introduction to Composition I (1) - Prerequisite: Dance 1113, two semesters of dance technique, or demonstrated competence approved by instructor. An introduction to the theories and development of basic choreographic principles; movement themes, group and structural forms. This course can be repeated for credit. (2 Lab)
DANC 1102 Introduction to Composition II (1) - Prerequisite: Dance 1101, or demonstrated competence approved by instructor. A study of selected principles underlying the design of group performance in dance. A continuation of Dance 1101. This course may be repeated for credit. (2 Lab)
DANC 1112 Coaching and Repertoire (1) - Prerequisite: Demonstrated competence approved by instructor. Variations and pasde deux from standard ballet repertoire are studied and notated.The dancer receives individual coaching, with special attention given to the correction of problems. This course may be repeated for credit. (2 Lab)
DANC 1113 Improvisation (1) - Prerequisite: Dance 1148 or 1242. This course consists of creative problem-solving utilizing basic elements of design. This course may be repeated for credit. (2 Lab)
DANC 1147 Jazz I (1) - An introduction to the principles of jazz dance techniques, rhythm awareness, jazz styles and combinations of movement. (3 Lab)
DANC 1148 Jazz II (1) - Prerequisite: Dance 1147 or demonstrated competence approved by instructor. A continuation and refinement of skills and styles in jazz dance. Emphasis placed on exploration of composition in jazz form. (3 Lab)
DANC 1151 Rehearsal and Performance (1) - Prerequisite: Open through audition. This course supplements beginning dance technique. DANC 1148,1242,1246,or 1345. Basic concepts of approaching work on the concert stage. Emphasis placed on stage directions, stage areas, and the craft involved in rehearsing and performing. This course may be repeated for credit. (4 Lab)
DANC 1152 Rehearsal and Performance (Concepts II) (1) - Prerequisite: open through audition. Dance 1151 or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor. This course supplements intermediate dance technique. Dance 1346, 2148, 2242,or 2246. The study and practice of dance rehearsal, performance and more advanced concepts as they apply to production techniques culminating in a main stage dance concert. This course may be repeated for credit
DANC 1241 Beginning Ballet (2) - An introduction to the techniques and principles of classical ballet. This course explores basic structure and terminology. Included are posture,balance, coordination, rhythm, and flow of physical energy through art form. Instruction in beginning adagio, petit allegro,grand allegro, en dedan and en dehor pirouettes, and various jumps are studied.(1 Lec.,3 Lab.)
DANC 1242 Beginning Ballet II (2) - Prerequisite: Dance 1241. This course is a continuation of Dance 1241. Emphasisis on body directions and stamina. More complex combinations using advanced patterning will be studied.
DANC 1245 Beginning Contemporary Dance I (2) - An introduction to the techniques and principles of modern dance. Emphasis is on technique development, familiarity with contemporary meters and rhythms. An awareness of major influences on concert dance is developed. (1 Lec.,3)
DANC 1246 - Beginning Contemporary Dance II - Consists of further exploration of beginning and modern jazz techniques, including contraction and release, and contrast of literal and abstract movements. Offered only as an evening class.
DANC 1345 Beginning Dance Technique in Theater (3) - Basic movements of theater dance are explored. Emphasis is on the study of various dance disciplines and styles, and their theatrical applications both in classroom and on stage.
DANC 1346 Intermediate Dance (3) - Prerequisite: Dance 1345 or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor. This course is a continuation of Dance 1345. Various aspects of dance are surveyed. Topics include the role of dance in total theater, the evolution of dance styles and their applications both classroom and stage practicum.(2 Lec., 3 Lab.)
DANC 2147 Jazz III (1) - Prerequisite: Dance 1148. This course consists of the development of proper performance framing. Complex jazz rhythms, turns, jumps, and intricate elements of choreography are introduced. (3 Lab)
DANC 2148 Jazz IV (1) - Prerequisite: Dance 2147. This course is a further exploration of Dance 2147. This course may be repeated for credit. (3 Lab)
DANC 2241 Intermediate Ballet I (2) - Prerequisite: Dance 1242. Continued development in ballet technique with emphasis placed on refinement of adagio, jumps, turns and connecting steps. Precision of movement is stressed. (1 Lec., 3 Lab.)
DANC 2242 Intermediate Ballet II (2) - Prerequisite: Dance 2242. Individual proficiency, artistry and technical virtuosity are developed. This course may be repeated for credit. (1 Lec., 3 Lab.)
DANC 2245 Intermediate Contemporary Dance I (2) - Prerequisite: DANC 1246. This course consists of the development of complex falls, combinations, phrasing, and dramatic emphasis. Laboratory fee. (1 Lec., 3 Lab.)
DANC 2246 Intermediate Contemporary Dance II (2) - Prerequisite: DANC 2245. This course is a further exploration of Dance 2245. This course may be repeated for credit. Laboratory fee. (1 Lec., 3 Lab.)
DANC 2303 Dance Appreciation (3) - The cultural, historical and aesthetic qualities of dance are presented through lectures, films, videos, demonstrations and dance productions. Primitive, classical and contemporary dance forms are included. (3 Lec.)
HUMA 1301 Intro to the Humanities (3) (3 Lec) - Introduction to the Humanities focuses on the study and appreciation of the fine and performing arts and the ways in which they reflect the values of civilizations.
