Canceled Classes (1-17-01)

Due to low enrollment, ITNW 1492.7001 Streaming Media and IMED 2415.7001 Page Design II have been canceled.

We have room in the Saturday section of Page Design II -- IMED 2415.7260. It meets from 9:00 am to 1:00 PM. If you'd like in this section please e-mail Sharon.

Communications Page Ready (1-17-01)

Communicating with your instructors is easy -- just use the new Communications Page. This feature is primarially designed to make it easier for instructors to grade your work, which means you'll get your grade back faster. Use the form every time you submit an assignment for grading!

The page works in NLC's non-email-friendly environment, too, making it great for sending email in class.

The form also features an absence report form, and a "general" form used to send email on any topic. Make communications easier -- make this form part of your class routine.

Textbook Information

Textbooks for all classes are now listed on the Spring Page. Links to various retailers are included to help you secure the best price possible.

Visual QuickStart Online Library Launched

If you enroll in web classes at NLC, you'll eventually become familiar with Peachpit Press's Visual Quickstart series. The books are favorites due to their reasonable price, light weight, concise style, and accurate information. Peachpit Press recently launched the Visual QuickStart Online Library. Membership in the library allows you to access the books online. While this isn't intended to replace a "real" book, you might find it a nice supplement. For a limited time, Peachpit Press is allowing seven-day "sneak peaks" at the library. The full service is a little pricey -- $49.95 for a year -- but some students might find the online format worth the cost. At present, every QuickStart book we use is included in the library -- Dreamweaver, Fireworks, JavaScript, dHTML, and the recommended-but-not-required HTML 4.0.

Revisions in Progress

Sharonh.com is undergoing a massive redesign this holiday season. When finished, students will see improved interactivity, including automated "Grade This!" forms, automated attendance, and other interactive features. You'll finally be able to print assignments without loosing the far right side of the page!

For now broken links abound, along with "broken" site features. I'm keeping the changes to Page Design down to a minimum for those of you finishing up incompletes -- please e-mail me if you encounter any difficulties.

Spring is in the Air . . .

Spring class schedules hit campus the week of Thanksgiving, with registration starting on December 4th. Thanks to our new lab, NLC will be able to teach several new web design courses, including evening and weekend courses. Information on each course, including textbooks, times, and descriptions, can be found on the Spring Recruitment Page.

New Instructors

NLC would like to welcome Darren Tran, Anna Wiley-Hudson, and Heather Wood to our teaching staff. Darren will take over the campus Dreamweaver I classes and the Saturday Page Design II class. Anna will teach a new Continuing Education course in Dreamweaver, and Heather will teach the CE Web Graphics.

New Lab

North Lake College recently approved a very generous e-commerce lab for web classes. The lab will house twenty-five PCs, a flatbed scanner, a film scanner, a color printer, five firewire digital video cards, a digital still camera, a digital video camera, and a huge amount of software. Best of all, we'll finally have web servers for students, and will be able to say "DOWN WITH GEOCITIES!"

New e-Commerce Degree

The DCCCD hopes to have a new degree plan for e-commerce approved in January. The degree involves several business and design courses. Best of all, we have a transfer guarantee with UTA -- your courses will count toward UTA's new four-year e-commerce degree. Start working on your degree now!

NLC Virtual Tour Has New Home

The NLC Virtual Tour, which was removed from NLC's web servers over the holiday break, has a new home at sharonh.com. Web Concepts students Kelly Reeves and Bryan Miller took most of the tour photos and compiled the tour for your viewing pleasure. Kudos to Bryan and Kelly!
